As a result, special selection is allowed as a positive action, but transgender students may be disadvantaged due to the validity of the example of “female quota” and the selection criteria based on binary gender. Several issues have become clear, including gender, preventing stigmatization and setting a reference point for those who entered the school under the “female quota”, and how long it will last as a temporary measure. The new “Faculty of Engineering” led by Nara Women's University and Ochanomizu University is “engineering for people and society” with a liberal arts focus, which overlaps with the philosophy of the SDGs, which aims for a sustainable society.
